11 Easy ways to age-proof your skin
AGING! This is a word that we wouldn’t want to hear, however we all can’t run away from this stage of life. As we grow up, our skin starts to age and our skin condition gets worse – dehydrated, lack of collagen, skin laxity. Although we can’t prevent aging, we can still do something to slow down the aging process. Here are some easy ways to age-proof your skin.
1. Eat it right
Load yourself up with omega-3 and -6 fatty acids, antioxidant-rich foods such as those with Vitamin ACE and beta-carotene. They help to speed up the repair of UV-damaged skin, contribute in giving you a smoother skin, healthier one, and protecting your skin against imflammation, eczema and acne.
2. Exercise and sweat it out
By exercising, you are increasing the blood circulation in the body, providing oxygen and nutrients to your skin cells. It also help to detoxify your body and flushes any toxins in your body. For a younger, brighter skin, start EXERCISING!
3. Sleep on your back
Do you know that by sleeping on your sides create sleep lines on your chin, cheeks and forehead? It is either you choose a satin material for your pillowcase or sleep on your back so that wrinkles will not start creeping in.
4. Exfoliate the dead cells
Dull and uneven complexion is the last thing you would like to get. Have a good exfoliation on your face once every week. It helps to remove the dead skin cells, the gunk build up in the pores and create a better blood circulation to the skin.
5. Sleep well
Do not think that you are still young and you can party all night without rest. Not just your body needs rest, your skin too. With the ample 8 hours sleep, your body can produce growth hormones which improves the collagen production and skin cell turnover. Sleep before 11 am as your body starts to repair and rejuvenate from 11pm to 3am.
6. Say No to stress
Being in a fast-paced and cosmopolitan society, we always need to face different sets of demands and expectations. This aggravates skin conditions like acne and eczema. When you feel stress, your body will release the stress hormone called the Cortisol which will generate more oil, thus resulting in breakout. Stress also affects the collagen level of your skin and leads to formation of wrinkles.
7. Hydration
I cannot emphasize enough the importance of water to your body and face. Every minute, we are losing water and even more when we are exercising. When our face feels dehydrated, the oil glands will produce more sebum, causing oil clogging the pores which may lead to breakout. Always hydrate your face by spraying facial mist or drinking more water.
8. Be Gentle
Please be gentle to your skin. Rubbing or pulling your skin will only stretch them and cause sagging face. When applying skincare or makeup, always pat gently.
9. Know your skin needs
Your skin condition changes over time. Sometimes your skin may be dry, sometimes your skin may be oily. Be more alert to the changes of your skin so that you can cater the right type of skincare regime.
10. Cleanse your skin properly
Proper cleansing ensures that your skin is prepped to received nutrients from skincare treatment. Facial wash is not just enough to remove your sunblock and makeup. Use a suitable makeup remover (oil-based or water-based) and gently wipe until your face is clean.
11. Massage your face
By massaging your face, you are encouraging more blood circulation to your face, delivering the nutrients to skin cells. Massaging also helps in reducing inflammation and promotes repair and rejuvenation.
