Adverse effects of computer rays on your skin

If you were told to surrender your computer and smart phone for a day, what will be your reaction? Will you panic because these gadgets have become part of your life that you can’t live without? We spend on an average 10-12 hours a day in front of our PC/ smart phones due to work, leisure etc. Do you know the adverse effects of computer rays on your skin? Can you imagine the extent to which these computer rays are adversely affecting our skin?

In the past, I do not really care much about UV rays, let alone how computer rays and radiation can affect our skin. Ever since I join the beauty industry two years back, my colleagues have been sharing with me beauty tips, anti-aging tips. Due to the nature of my work, I read online articles, beauty magazines and health reports and realised how important it is to at least apply sunscreen on my face before stepping out of the house. But I did not know the harmful effects of the computer rays to my face. If you are someone who sits in front of the screen for long hours, you will develop a “computer face” – accelerated fine lines, wrinkles, frown lines, turkey neck, deep wrinkles, and jowls. Thus, people working long hours in front of the screen should absolutely take care to protect themselves, as these daily radiations slowly contribute to skin aging.

  1. Dark eye circles

While some of us have hereditary dark eye circles, spending long hours in front of the computer can aggravate the condition. When we unknowingly stare at our computer screen, strain our eyes for long hours, the dark eye circles becomes more prominent. I also noticed that my eyes can also get puffier than usual.

  1. Crow’s feet

Crow’s feet — or you call is ‘laughter lines’  are lines found at the side of our eyes due to the loss in collagen and hyaluronic acid around the area. When you are on the computer for too long, your eyes tend to become tired and you will tend to blink or squint more. This can contribute to crow’s feet in the long run if you’re not careful.

  1. Skin Pigmentation

Not to worry if you are using LCD monitors. According to research, most flat-panels monitors have not been found emitting any UV light. However, if you are still using the older version of monitor, known as CRT monitors, you gotta be careful. They emit low levels of UV light. Friends, it’s time to change that large, box-shaped monitors.

  1. Skin Discoloration

Do you balance your laptop on your knees or tummy? Please do not do that anymore yeah? You do not have a permanent discolouration of your skin. This condition is called “toasted skin syndrome” where the heat generated by the laptop cause the discolouration of the skin.
