There’s a Chinese saying when it comes to our hair – 三千烦恼丝 (san-qian-fan-nao-si) – literally meaning “three thousand strands of worry”. Evidently, our hair can be the cause of much worry to many of us. With the different hair treatments available in the market, the kind of hair products for different hair condition give us the problem of choosing the best for us, at times feel like rocket science. Besides choosing the right hair products, there are many other methods we can follow to protect our hair.

Protein and Omega-3 for Healthy Hair

Just like how protein and omega-3 are good for our body, it also promotes stronger and healthier hair, with a healthier scalp. It is important to eat healthily with leafy vegetables, beans, and carrots. Do not avoid eating just because you want to lose weight. Losing weight is not about eating less but is about eating right. If you often style your hair with hot tools — or you color, bleach, or perm a lot — you can damage hair’s protective outer layer. The result is “split ends.” Thankfully, there are hair products to help mend the damage. Look for conditioners with protein. They sink into the hair shaft and repair split ends. The fix only lasts until the next shampoo, so you’ll need to use them regularly.

Vitamin C for your hair

It is necessary to make sure that you intake necessary vitamins (eg. Kiwi Fruit) as they can fight fat loss while compounds such as magnesium, phosphorus and zinc helps boost blood circulation in the scalp.

Protect Shine With Lukewarm Water

Hot water opens up the pores but also dry our skin as it strips the protective oils that act as a natural conditioner to our hair. I am not asking you to use cold water but you can choose lukewarm water to wash your hair to maintain your hair’s natural shine. This also applies to your body.

Hair Dryers are the same – high or low powered

Wet long hair is always a problem for our ladies when it comes to night time. We want to sleep yet couldn’t do so as we just had our shower. In order to gain more beauty sleep, we often choose a powerful blow dryer. However, in comparison with all other hair dryers, Consumer Reports researched that all takes the same amount of time to dry the hair. Thus, by choosing a lower powered hair dryers, it protects your hair for further damage. And do you know that if you blow-dry your hair frequently, it may lead to hair loss. This is because (especially for finer hair) is more sensitive to heat and suffer a greater damage. There are some products out in the market that claim to protect your hair before styling. Get those serum on your hair before styling.

Do not tie your hair too tight

Girls, we like to give ourselves different look every now and then. Sometimes, we let our hair down to our shoulders, sometimes, we tie a ponytail or braids. However, if we tie too tightly, you are actually causing damage to our hair roots. Wearing a tight style around the clock can even make our hair fall out. Let loose! We should give our hair a break every night and not have the ponytails on while sleeping.

Protect Hair From the Sun

Just like how UV rays are damaging to our skin, the sun is no kinder to our hair Exposure under the sun will cause drying out our hair. Invest in hair spray with SPF protection or wear a hat when the sun is out.
